Blackberry announces PlayBook, a 7-inch tablet PC

Research in Motion (RIM) yesterday became the latest company to jump into the tablet computer market with its announcement of the BlackBerry PlayBook, a tablet with a 7-inch screen.

The company is attempting to set its tablet apart from others by emphasizing the PlayBook's business capabilities, as well as compatibilities with the BlackBerry phone. For starters, BlackBerry owners will be able to pair their phones with the PlayBook via Bluetooth, allowing them to view BlackBerry content like e-mail, calendar, and documents on the tablet.
Since the device will not be available in a version with a 3G or 4G data connection, at least not yet, the pairing permits some sort of mobile data connection for the device. No information about whether it would cost extra to pair the devices was available yet.

The PlayBook will have Wi-Fi capability, and RIM also says it can multitask and has front and back cameras that will allow videoconferencing.
